This Limited-Edition Pokémon Card Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

To celebrate the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership has been formed. Pokémon's creators and the Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store stocked with special items. Enthusiasts can look forward to products like stationery, plushes, and artwork all drawing from the museum's theme. The big draw, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. The store will operate both on-site at the museum and online from January 26 to April 19.

Pokécology Behind the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited tome packed with stunning illustrations depicting Pokémon in their natural habitats. It's essentially is the kind of research a Pokémon Professor could produce after adventurers submit their data, alternatively what Charles Darwin could have sketched if the Galapagos teemed with flying-types rather than birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly treatment, presenting Pokémon as a legitimate scientific inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.

What Makes This Promo Card Stand Out

The company regularly to issue special edition cards for major tournaments and brand collaborations. Many such collector items often feature the famous mouse Pokémon that acts as the series face. The factor setting this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger size. Although exact measurements have not been immediately shared, its distribution will certainly be highly restricted, and customers limited to just one card with each transaction.

Curbing Reseller Activity

Per a company announcement, a portion of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the institution itself. But, a wider release is slated for select retailers in the United Kingdom. Critically, collectors will not be able to purchase the card through the online Pokémon Center. Although speculator demand is a given, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. If you're feeling left out, there is the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to the Windy City in the coming months.

"Every penny from purchases made in the Museum shop and its online store, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists dedicated to scientific inquiry to discover solutions to the planetary emergency," the statement notes.
