The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
