Around 25,000 households in Queensland's southeast found themselves without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events passed over the region, bringing strong winds topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Hailstones and Widespread Damage

Residents witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams working to manage the widespread outages.

Victorian Weather Woes

At the same time, around one thousand residents in Victoria also faced power outages after the capital city saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams handled over five hundred emergency reports across the state, mostly for building damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple emergency calls
• Wyndham region - 179 calls for assistance

During the peak on yesterday, over 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential expected across multiple regions of both areas.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the current weather patterns.

This alert comes after historical occurrences where similar conditions led to significant health impacts in the state.
